After an early breakfast at the lodge, your Tour Guide shall take you on a morning excursion to the giant red dunes of Sossusvlei and the impressive Sesriem Canyon.
Sossusvlei: Namibia’s famous highlight in the heart of the Namib Desert is a huge clay pan, enclosed by giant sand dunes. Some of the spectacular hills of sand are, at a height of 300 meters, the highest in the world.
Sesriem Canyon: At the entry to Sossusvlei is Sesriem Canyon, where centuries of erosion have incised a narrow gorge about 1 km in length. At the foot of the gorge, which plunges down 30 to 40m, are pools that become replenished after good rains. Sesriem derives its name from the time when early pioneers tied six lengths of rawhide thongs together to draw water from the pools. Interesting to see are the various layers of sediment rock that form the surrounding desert floor.
